About

Liv Cappello is a self-taught artist based in Somerville, MA, working primarily in oil painting and silkscreen printmaking. Her work explores themes of place, community, and memory — how our surroundings shape who we are and how we stay connected to one another.

Recently, she's been drawn to narrative oil painting, using old family photos, images of loved ones, and familiar neighborhood scenes as source material. Translating these moments into paint allows her to explore how memory shifts over time and how personal histories become shared ones.

Liv started Long Trail Studio in 2020 while living in Vermont, inspired by the Long Trail and the landscape around her. Although her practice now revolves more around painting, her background in screenprinting continues to shape the way she thinks about color, layering, and design.

Her work has been featured in Artscope Magazine, the Somerville Times, and Zone 3's Art in Print, and she has exhibited throughout Somerville and Cambridge, including shows with the Cambridge Art Association, Concord Center for the Visual Arts, and an upcoming show with Arts at the Armory. In 2025, she received a Somerville Arts Council Visual Arts Project Grant and a Visual Arts Fellowship in 2026.
